EDIT/UPDATE: Mystery resolved! Turns out, it wasn’t actually peppercorns. The jar was filled with poppy seeds and sesame seeds instead.

    Glad to hear you solved the mystery! It’s funny how sometimes things can look so similar. Poppy seeds and sesame seeds can definitely be mistaken for peppercorns at first glance. Now you have some interesting new ingredients to work with! What do you plan to make with them?
