I mistakenly bought 2 big cans of tomato paste, thinking they were crushed tomatoes. What can I do with them?

I accidentally purchased two large cans of tomato paste, thinking they were crushed tomatoes. Now that I’ve opened one, I’ve realized it contains enough tomato paste for a lifetime! Although I’m stuck with it, I want to put it to good use. Any recipe suggestions?

  1. No worries! There are plenty of ways to use tomato paste beyond just pasta sauce. Here are some ideas:

    1. Soups and Stews: Add a couple of tablespoons to your soups or stews for deeper flavor and richness. It complements many recipes, from chili to minestrone.

    2. Homemade Sauce: Make a quick marinara or Bolognese sauce by combining the paste with crushed tomatoes, garlic, onions, and your favorite seasonings.

    3. Chili: Tomato paste is perfect for boosting the flavor in chili. Just add it to the mix of beans, meat, and spices.

    4. Casseroles: Mix the paste into casseroles for added moisture and taste, like in a lasagna or a baked pasta dish.

    5. Pizza Sauce: Combine the paste with dried herbs, garlic, and a bit of water to create a pizza sauce.

    6. Dressings and Marinades: Blend it into salad dressings or marinades to give them an Italian twist.

    7. Tomato-Based Dips: Mix tomato paste with cream cheese or yogurt, spices, and herbs for a delicious dip.

    8. Freeze: If you think you won’t use it fast enough, you can portion the remaining paste into ice cube trays and freeze it. Then, just pop out a cube whenever you need it!

    9. Stuffed Peppers or Tomatoes: Mix tomato paste with rice, spices, and vegetables to fill stuffed peppers or tomatoes.

You’ve got plenty of options, so don’t let it go to waste! Happy cooking!
