The Golden Plate Challenge (Need Your Help!)
A year or two ago, a friend of mine started exploring the world of cooking, and I was happy to share my knowledge and teach him some techniques and dishes. However, last year he began boasting to our mutual friends, family, and colleagues that he was a better cook than I am. It’s baffling, considering I taught him everything he knows!
To address his claims, I proposed a friendly competition called the Golden Plate. We would each prepare a dish for a panel of friends to judge. In what I can only describe as an extraordinary culinary upset, he ended up winning! I opted for a creative take on Massimo’s parmesan risotto, but the judges leaned towards his heavily salted beef short rib. It was nothing short of shocking.
Now, the time has come for my revenge. This year’s Golden Plate is set for April 12th, and I’m determined to reclaim my title. I’ve got no budget constraints, plenty of patience, and an intense drive to win. We’ve recruited a new panel of trained judges this year, and they’ll evaluate us on taste, creativity, and the complexity of preparation. The only rule is to avoid truffles, caviar, and gold flakes—we’re aiming for a genuine competition.
