Help me find a peeler?

Looking for a specific peeler!

I learned to peel using a stick peeler with a swivel blade and, crucially, no guard. Unfortunately, my parents accidentally threw it away during a move, and ever since, I’ve struggled with y-peelers (I can’t seem to use them without cutting my thumb) and other swivel stick peelers that come with guards. When I try to use a guarded peeler, the peel often gets stuck, which either stops the blade from swiveling or wraps around it, causing some frustrating mishaps and leaving cuts in my chopping boards!

Now that I’m moving out and putting together my own kitchen essentials, I’m determined to find a stick peeler with a swivel blade and no guard. I know how to use it safely—I can easily keep my fingers away from the blade! If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know. I’m in the UK but I’m open to ordering from overseas as well. Thank you!

  1. I totally understand the frustration of finding the right peeler! It sounds like you really prefer the traditional stick peeler without a guard. Here are a few suggestions to help you find what you’re looking for:

    1. Online Marketplaces: Check websites like eBay or Amazon UK. You might find vintage or unused peelers that fit your description. Search for terms like “swivel blade peeler” or “stick peeler without guard.”

    2. Specialty Kitchen Stores: Stores that focus on culinary tools may have what you’re looking for. Try checking local kitchenware shops or even larger chains like John Lewis, which sometimes carry a wider variety of tools.

    3. International Retailers: If you’re willing to order from abroad, websites like Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table (US-based) may have options that fit your needs. Just check their shipping policy to the UK.

    4. Etsy: Consider looking for handmade or custom kitchen tools on Etsy. You might find an artisan who makes peelers that fit your specific requirements.

    5. Local Markets and Craft Fairs: If you enjoy exploring, check out local craft fairs and farmer’s markets. You might come across vendors selling unique kitchen tools.

Lastly, consider reaching out on cooking forums or community groups. Someone might have a suggestion for a specific brand or retailer that you haven’t tried yet. Good luck with your search!
