Is my salmon still good?

Is my salmon still safe to eat?

I bought a fresh salmon fillet and kept it in the fridge for 2 days, intending to cook it. However, I didn’t get around to it, so I put it in the freezer for 2 days. After that, I defrosted it and now it’s been in the fridge for another 2 days. I plan to cook it today—can I still use it?

  1. If the salmon has been properly handled and stored, it should still be fine to cook. Here are a few key points to consider:

    1. Storage Time: Fresh salmon can typically be stored in the fridge for 1-2 days. Freezing it was a good move to extend its shelf life.

    2. Thawing: Since you thawed the salmon in the fridge and it’s been there for 2 days, you should check for any signs of spoilage. It’s generally safe to cook it within 1-2 days after thawing in the fridge.

    3. Signs of Spoilage: Look for any off smells, discoloration, or a slimy texture. If it smells overly fishy or has changed significantly in appearance or texture, it’s best to err on the side of caution and not consume it.

If the salmon looks, smells, and feels normal, it should be good to cook. Just make sure to cook it thoroughly. Enjoy your meal!
