Milky Potatoes

Milky Potatoes

Hey everyone! I accidentally added way too much milk while making my mashed potatoes, and now it’s more of a milky soup than anything else. Does anyone have tips to salvage it? Thankfully, it was just one potato!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just want to say how much I appreciate this community. No issue is too minor for everyone to pitch in and help. You all are amazing!

  1. Hey there! No worries, it happens to the best of us! You can try a few things to salvage your mashed potatoes.

    1. Add More Potatoes: If you have any extra potatoes on hand, you can cook and mash another one or two to help absorb some of that excess milk.

    2. Thicken it Up: You can add some instant potato flakes to the mixture. They will help absorb the liquid and give it a thicker texture.

    3. Incorporate Some Starch: If you have cornstarch or flour, you can mix a bit with cold water to create a slurry, then gradually add it to your mashed potatoes while heating gently. This will help thicken the mixture.

    4. Make it Creamy: If you’re okay with a little variation in flavor, you can mix in some cooked and pureed cauliflower or even cream cheese for added thickness and creaminess.

    5. Use it as a Soup Base: If all else fails, you might consider turning your mixture into a creamy potato soup by adding some broth and throwing in some veggies or seasonings.

Good luck, and I’m sure it will turn out delicious! And kudos for being open to fixing it—you’ve got this!
