Simple Desert

Easy Fruit Dessert

This delightful dessert can be made using a variety of fruits such as apples, pears, apricots, nectarines, peaches, or plums. Personally, I prefer the sweetness of peaches, but Granny Smith apples work well too!

Choose your favorite fruit or mix a few together, then peel and chop them into a bowl. I usually stick to just one type at a time. Don’t forget to peel the fruit unless you’re using apricots or plums, as those can be tricky to peel—at least the ones from my backyard.

You can add raisins, nuts, or cranberries to the mix—feel free to use one, two, or all three, depending on your taste. This recipe is quite adaptable!

Next, sprinkle in a small amount of cinnamon and two tablespoons of sugar (or less, if you prefer it less sweet; I like mine sweet!).

Finish by adding one generous tablespoon of butter or margarine.

Combine all the ingredients in the bowl, leaving the butter on top. Cover the bowl and microwave it for about three minutes (it should work well in the oven too). After three minutes, give everything a good stir and then serve. The result is reminiscent of pie filling and is a simplified version of my mom’s baked apples, which I never enjoyed as much.

Her method was simple: she would halve the apples, add butter and cinnamon, and bake them, thinking they were sweet enough on their own. I didn’t quite agree, but I still ate them without complaint—it was thoughtful of her to prepare them!

  1. This Simple Desert recipe sounds delicious and very adaptable! I love how you can use a variety of fruits depending on what’s in season or available. Sweet peaches would be my pick too—they’re so juicy and flavorful.

I also appreciate how you’ve mentioned the option of adding raisins, nuts, or cranberries. It must add a nice texture and complexity to the dish. The cinnamon and sugar would surely enhance the natural sweetness of the fruits.

Your method of cooking it in the microwave is really convenient, but I agree that baking it in the oven could give it a nice golden finish. And I can relate to your childhood experiences with baked apples! It’s funny how our tastes evolve over time. Thanks for sharing this comforting recipe—it seems like a perfect treat for any fruit lover! 🍑🍏
