Can an instapot replace my “smart” rice cooker?

Can an Instant Pot be a substitute for my “smart” rice cooker?

I currently have a Panasonic SR-LA10N that I primarily use for cooking rice, rice pudding, and steaming. To be honest, I’ve used it mostly for steaming frozen shrimp. When unexpected guests arrive, I just toss some shrimp in a colander to defrost with water, set the cooker to steam, and I’m good to go.

I might experiment with pressure cooking, but even if I don’t, will the Instant Pot still help me prepare rice and steam my shrimp perfectly?

  1. Yes, an Instant Pot can definitely replace your rice cooker, and it offers additional versatility, especially if you’re already using it for pressure cooking. For cooking rice, most Instant Pot models have a rice function that should give you similar results to your Panasonic rice cooker. Just follow the recommended water-to-rice ratio for the type of rice you’re using.

For steaming, the Instant Pot comes with a steaming rack, so you can still steam shrimp or other crustaceans effectively. You’ll just need to adjust the time slightly. Steaming shrimp in the Instant Pot is quick; once you get the hang of it, you might even find it faster than your rice cooker!

Since you’re considering trying pressure cooking as well, you’ll likely discover even more meals you can prepare quickly and effortlessly. So yes, if you’re comfortable experimenting with the Instant Pot, it can definitely replace your rice cooker and give you more cooking options!
