Question about cooking steak bites

I have a quick question that might seem silly: when a video instructs to sear each side for 30 seconds, does that refer to just the top and bottom, or does it mean all sides of the steak bites? The video usually shows them being flipped once, but they keep mentioning “each side.” Can someone clarify?

  1. That’s a great question! When a recipe or video mentions searing “each side,” it typically refers to the two main sides of the steak bite—essentially the top and the bottom. So in your case, you would sear one side for 30 seconds, then flip it to sear the other side for another 30 seconds. If the steak bites are more cube-shaped or have more than two flat surfaces, some recipes may suggest searing the additional sides briefly, but it’s usually not necessary for small pieces like steak bites. So flipping them once should be sufficient for a good sear!
