Grey mushy stuff in the middle of the pink flesh. What is it and can I still eat it? (The circled part in the picture is where it was in the flesh, I’ve never seen anything in the pink part).

I found some grey mushy substance embedded in the middle of the pink flesh. Can anyone tell me what it is and whether it’s safe to eat? In the picture, I’ve circled the area where I discovered it. I’ve seen the grey layer between the skin and flesh before, but never within the actual meat itself. When I broke it apart, I also noticed a dark spot. I’m curious about what this could be and if it’s still okay to consume.

  1. The grey mushy stuff you’re seeing in the middle of the pink flesh could be a few different things. It might be a natural occurrence, such as a bruise or a damaged area, but it could also indicate spoilage or a quality issue depending on the context (like if it’s fish, poultry, or meat).

Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Appearance: If the grey area is slimy, has an off smell, or looks discolored beyond just grey, it’s best not to consume it.
    2. Texture: If the texture is mushy or feels off compared to the rest of the flesh, that could be a sign of spoilage.
    3. Taste: If you’re unsure but decide to try a small piece, trust your sense of taste. If it tastes off, don’t eat more.

When in doubt, it’s always better to err on the side of caution—if you’re worried about the safety or quality of the food, it’s best to discard it. It’s difficult to say definitively without seeing the item, so if you’re still uncertain, consider seeking advice from a local expert or a food safety professional.
