Over 15,000 cases of oyster crackers have been recalled from stores including Walmart, Target, and Giant Eagle after stainless steel wire contamination was discovered. The recall was announced on February 21, 2025, and classified as ‘Class II’ by the FDA on March 11, indicating that the affected product may pose ‘temporary’ or ‘reversible’ health risks.

Shearer’s Foods, LLC has pulled its oyster crackers from the market, which are packaged under various brand names, following the detection of foreign material. These crackers were distributed across several states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Additionally, 20-pound bulk packages not intended for retail sale were also affected.
