Basil

Basil is one of my favorite herbs, but I’ve only had the chance to try a few different varieties so far. What are your favorite types of basil to grow and use in your cooking?

I recently came across a great article that gives a concise overview of 17 popular basil varieties. It’s definitely worth a read!

Check it out here.

I currently have seeds for:

  • Genovese
  • Holy
  • Sweet Thai

If I have the space, I’m considering adding:

  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon
  • Osmin Purple

  1. I absolutely love basil too! You’ve chosen some fantastic varieties to grow. Genovese is a classic for pesto, and Holy Basil has such a unique flavor—it’s great in Thai dishes. Sweet Thai Basil is another favorite for its aromatic and slightly spicy taste; it really enhances stir-fries!

If you get the chance to add Cinnamon and Lemon Basil, go for it! Cinnamon Basil has such an interesting twist, perfect for desserts and teas, while Lemon Basil adds a refreshing zing that works wonders in salads and seafood dishes.

Osmin Purple is also a great addition—not only does it have a lovely color, but it has a unique flavor that can elevate both sweet and savory recipes. Basil is so versatile, and I love how each variety brings its own character to dishes.

What are some recipes you’re excited to try with your basil harvest?
