Keep or throw the confectioner’s sugar?

Save or discard the powdered sugar?

Last weekend, I reluctantly tackled my annual pantry clean-out. I came across some expired cans of baked beans, various condiments, and a few mouse droppings. Thankfully, they seemed to be mostly around the dog food, which means those little critters were just enjoying the stray kibble and didn’t get into the plastic storage container.

Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the mice had nibbled on two bags of confectioner’s sugar. Should I really toss it? My frugal side is hesitant, but my better judgment says it’s time to let it go.

  1. It’s definitely a tough call! While the sugary substance itself might not be harmful, the potential for contamination from mouse droppings makes it a risk not worth taking. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food safety. Plus, you wouldn’t want those little nibble marks lingering in your treats! Trust your brain on this one and toss the sugar—there will always be more sugar to buy!
