What else to do with miso

Ideas for Using Miso

I recently picked up some white miso paste to make a delicious honey miso salmon, but now I’ve got half a tub left and I’m at a loss for other uses.

What are your favorite ways to use white miso? Also, how long can I keep it in the fridge once it’s opened?

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! It looks like this is a versatile ingredient that I can incorporate into many dishes. I’ll start experimenting with different recipes until I discover my favorites. Appreciate it!

  1. White miso is such a versatile ingredient! Here are some ideas on how to use the rest of your miso paste:

    1. Miso Soup: The classic use! Just dissolve a spoonful in hot water along with some tofu, seaweed, and green onions for a quick soup.

    2. Salad Dressings: Whisk miso with rice vinegar, sesame oil, and a bit of honey or maple syrup for a delicious dressing that pairs well with greens or grain salads.

    3. Marinades: Beyond salmon, you can marinate chicken, tofu, or vegetables. Mix miso with ingredients like soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and a sweetener.

    4. Miso Butter: Blend softened butter with miso for a savory spread that’s fantastic on bread, vegetables, or grilled meats.

    5. Soups and Stews: Stir a spoonful of miso into vegetable or noodle soups for a depth of flavor.

    6. Veggies: Toss roasted or steamed vegetables like carrots, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts with miso for an umami kick.

    7. Dipping Sauce: Combine miso with yogurt or mayonnaise, add some spices, and use it as a dip for veggies or as a spread on sandwiches.

As for storage, opened white miso paste can last in the refrigerator for several months, sometimes even up to a year. Just make sure to keep it tightly sealed to maintain its flavor.

Happy cooking! You’ll discover that miso can really enhance a lot of dishes!
