Fluctuating Freezer Temperature

Hi everyone,

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with a smaller freezer on top (model numbers similar to WRT519, WRT108, WRT138, WRT148, WRT318, WRT348, WRT549).

I recently tested the fridge compartment, and it’s operating within the recommended temperature range. However, when I placed a Bluetooth thermometer in the freezer, I noticed some temperature fluctuations that caught my attention.

The temperature is set one notch above the recommended setting for colder air, and the airflow in the freezer is also adjusted to the “recommended” setting. The fluctuations seem to occur at consistent intervals, as shown in the images.

Is this something to be concerned about?

    1. Airflow: Since your freezer is smaller, it may have limited airflow, which can cause temperature variations. Make sure there’s enough space around food items for air to circulate.

    2. Usage Patterns: Opening the freezer door frequently or for extended periods can allow warm air to enter, causing temporary fluctuations.

    3. Thermostat Cycling: Refrigerators and freezers typically cycle on and off to maintain the desired temperature. These cycles can cause short-term temperature changes.

    4. Temperature Setting: You mentioned that the setting is one above the “recommended” level. Try adjusting it to the middle setting to see if that stabilizes the temperature.

    5. Faulty Thermometer: Lastly, ensure your Bluetooth thermometer is accurate. Sometimes external thermometers might not reflect the internal temperature perfectly.

    If you continue to notice significant fluctuations (more than a few degrees) over a short period or if the temperature rises above 0°F (-18°C), it might be worth checking with a professional technician. But if it stays around the recommended range most of the time, a little fluctuation can be typical for your model.
