Easy meals for a rookie to cooking

Easy Meal Ideas for a Cooking Newbie

Hey everyone! I’m a 19-year-old girl taking care of my two younger sisters for the next couple of months while my parents are busy—my mom’s off in LA for training. That means I’ll be handling cooking, cleaning, and childcare all by myself! My sisters are 15 and 7. Although my oldest sister is actually a better cook than I am, I can’t expect her to take charge from Monday to Friday.

I’m comfortable using the air fryer, oven, and stove, but I sometimes get nervous about splattering oil and burns. I can whip up simple dishes, but I really want to make actual meals that my sisters will enjoy. Any easy meal ideas or recipes you can share? Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi there! It’s great that you’re stepping up to take care of your sisters! Here are some easy meal ideas that are simple to prepare and should keep everyone happy and fed:

    1. Taco Night: Just cook some ground beef or turkey in a pan with taco seasoning. Serve with tortillas, cheese, lettuce, diced tomatoes, and any other toppings they like. It’s fun and everyone can build their own tacos!

    2. Pasta with Marinara Sauce: Cook any type of pasta (like spaghetti or penne) and heat up a jar of marinara sauce. You can add veggies (like spinach or mushrooms) or cooked chicken for extra protein. Top with Parmesan cheese for added flavor.

    3. Air Fryer Chicken Tenders: Bread some chicken strips with breadcrumbs or crushed cereal. Air fry them until golden and crispy (usually about 10-15 minutes). Serve with dipping sauces!

    4. Pizza Night: Use store-bought pizza dough or pre-made bases. Let your sisters add their favorite toppings, like cheese, pepperoni, veggies, etc. Bake according to package instructions.

    5. Quesadillas: Simply fill tortillas with cheese and any other fillings (chicken, veggies, etc.), fold them in half, and cook on a skillet or air fryer until the cheese melts.

    6. Stir-Fry: Sauté your choice of protein (chicken, beef, or tofu) with a mix of frozen or fresh veggies and some soy sauce. Serve over rice or noodles.

    7. Baked Potatoes: Microwave or bake potatoes until tender. Top with butter, cheese, beans, or whatever toppings your sisters like.

    8. Breakfast for Dinner: Make scrambled eggs or an omelet, serve with toast, and add some fruit on the side.

For snacks, keep some fruit, yogurt, or granola bars handy. Don’t hesitate to involve your 15-year-old sister in cooking—she might enjoy helping out and adding her own spin to the meals. And remember, practice makes perfect! Good luck!
