I might have eaten an undercooked egg. Help!

I think I may have eaten an undercooked egg. Can anyone help?

I boiled two eggs for around 6 minutes, and while the yolk turned out wonderfully runny (so tasty!), the egg white was a bit softer than I expected (though it wasn’t clear, it was solid white).

Now I’m feeling anxious that I might have eaten something undercooked. Any advice? :/

  1. It’s understandable to feel a bit anxious after eating something that seems undercooked! Boiling eggs for 6 minutes usually results in a soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk, and while the egg whites may still be a bit soft, they should generally be safe to eat as long as they aren’t slimy or translucent.

The risk of foodborne illness from eggs predominantly comes from bacteria like Salmonella, which is why it’s important to ensure eggs are cooked thoroughly. If you used fresh eggs and they were from a reliable source, the risk is relatively low.

If you’re feeling fine and don’t have any symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after 24 hours, you’re likely in the clear. Just make sure to monitor how you feel, and if you notice any unusual symptoms, it may be a good idea to consult a healthcare professional. In the future, if you’re concerned about undercooked eggs, you might consider cooking them a bit longer or using pasteurized eggs!
