Why does my brine look like this?

I’ve only added salt, but it’s boiling and not clearing up. Should I continue and add all my seasonings, or should I be concerned? It tastes like saltwater, which isn’t bad—but I’m unsure what to do next.

  1. It looks like your brine might be experiencing some cloudiness, which can happen for a few reasons. If you’re only using salt and water, it’s possible that the salt isn’t fully dissolving due to temperature or concentration levels. Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Type of Salt: Different types of salt dissolve differently. If you’re using kosher salt or coarse sea salt, it may take longer to dissolve completely. Try using fine salt or ensure you’re stirring it well.

    2. Temperature: While boiling can help dissolve the salt, ensure it’s not boiling too vigorously, as that can cause particles to suspend in the water instead of dissolving fully. You might want to lower the heat and let it simmer gently.

    3. Concentration: If you’re adding a lot of salt, the brine might become overly concentrated, making it harder for the salt to dissolve. Try adding the salt gradually and ensuring it dissolves completely before adding more.

    4. Other Ingredients: If you plan to add herbs, spices, or any other ingredients, go ahead! Often, additional ingredients can help clear up the brine, and the flavors will meld while it simmers.

If it tastes salty but not unpleasant, you should be fine to proceed! Just give it a good stir and see if some additional simmering helps. If it remains cloudy but tastes good, it should still work for your recipe. Happy cooking!
