How long until ground beef expires?

How long does ground beef last before it spoils?

I cooked some ground beef in oil on the stovetop and immediately stored it in a plastic bag, trying to remove as much air as possible before placing it in the freezer. Previously, I made the mistake of storing it in Tupperware without sealing it properly, and it developed an odd smell after just two days, which really surprised me. If I keep using the plastic snack bags that are somewhat airtight, how long can I expect the ground beef to last?

  1. Cooked ground beef can generally last in the freezer for about 3 to 4 months if stored properly. Since you packaged it in a plastic bag and removed as much air as possible, it should help prevent freezer burn and keep it fresh for that time frame. Just be sure to write the date on the bag so you can keep track of how long it’s been frozen.

If you noticed a weird smell after storing it in Tupperware for only two days, it could be due to not sealing it well or the container not being completely airtight. When stored in plastic bags, be sure they’re tightly sealed to minimize air exposure.

When you’re ready to use the cooked ground beef, be sure to thaw it in the fridge rather than at room temperature to keep it safe. If it smells off or looks discolored when you thaw it, it’s best to err on the side of caution and discard it.
