Lychee Mayo?

Lychee Mayo, Anyone?
I’m a huge fan of recreating my favorite restaurant dishes at home, and I’m seeking some advice.

Recently, I had a life-changing salmon carpaccio that featured an incredible sauce, which included a “lychee mayo” alongside yuzu citrus. The mayo had a yum-yum sauce vibe but was less acidic, with a delightful, subtle sweetness from the lychee. When I searched online for a recipe, I found almost nothing!

While I’m sure a combination of lychee or lychee juice with a basic aioli could get me close, I’m curious if anyone here has attempted something similar. If you have, what ingredients would you suggest to capture that flavor profile? I appreciate your help!

  1. That sounds like an amazing dish! Lychee mayo is definitely a unique and delicious idea. You’re on the right track with the idea of using lychee and a base like aioli or mayo. Here’s a simple recipe you could try to recreate the lychee mayo:

    Lychee Mayo Recipe

    Ingredients:
    – 1 cup mayonnaise (you can use regular or Japanese mayo for a creamier texture)
    – 1/2 cup canned lychee (drained) or 1/4 cup lychee puree (you can blend fresh or canned lychee until smooth)
    – 1 tsp lemon or lime juice (adjust to taste for brightness)
    – 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for umami flavor)
    – A pinch of salt
    – A pinch of white pepper (optional for a bit of warmth)

    Instructions:
    1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and lychee (either the chopped pieces or the puree).
    2. Add the lemon or lime juice to balance the sweetness.
    3. If you’re using soy sauce, add that as well.
    4. Mix everything until smooth and well combined.
    5. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt, pepper, or more citrus juice as needed.

    Additional Tips

    • For a bit of extra flavor, consider adding a touch of wasabi or horseradish for heat, if you want a little kick.
    • Experiment with the ratio of lychee to mayo until you reach the balance you like.
    • Pair this with your salmon carpaccio, and it could elevate the dish even further!

Let me know how it turns out or if you come up with any interesting variations! Enjoy your cooking adventure!
