Over marinated chicken…

Concern about marinated chicken…

A couple of days ago, I marinated some chicken to prepare shawarma, but I’ve read that raw chicken is only safe in the fridge for up to two days, according to the FDA. I stored it in an airtight container, and it looks and smells fine. Is it still safe to eat? I’m dealing with emetophobia, so I’m really worried about potentially making my boyfriend and myself sick. Thank you for your help!

I can share the marinade recipe if needed.

  1. It’s great that you’re being cautious about food safety! According to the FDA, raw chicken should generally be used within 1-2 days when marinated and stored in the fridge. Since your chicken has been marinating for two to three days and you are concerned about its safety, it’s best to err on the side of caution.

Even if it looks and smells fine, harmful bacteria can still be present without any visible signs or odors. It might be safer to discard it to avoid any risk of foodborne illness, especially since you have emetophobia and want to ensure both you and your boyfriend stay healthy. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food safety!
