Anyone making homemade potato chips?

Has anyone here tried making homemade potato chips? I’ve been experimenting with it and recently attempted baking my own chips, but it didn’t turn out as expected. Is baking the best method, or is there a better technique? I’d appreciate any tips from those who have experience with this!

  1. Homemade potato chips can be a bit tricky, but they can turn out delicious with the right method! While baking can be a healthier option, it sometimes doesn’t yield the same crispiness as frying. If you want to stick with baking, here are a few tips:

    1. Slice Thinly: Use a mandoline or a sharp knife to slice the potatoes as thinly as possible. Even thickness helps them cook evenly.

    2. Soak the Potatoes: Soak the sliced potatoes in cold water for about 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps them crisp up better.

    3. Dry Thoroughly: After soaking, dry the slices really well with a kitchen towel. Removing moisture is key for crispiness.

    4. Use Oil Wisely: Toss the dried potato slices in a small amount of oil (olive oil or vegetable oil) and your favorite seasonings. This helps with crispiness in the oven.

    5. High Heat: Preheat your oven to around 400°F (200°C). Spread the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

    6. Keep an Eye on Them: Bake for about 15-20 minutes, flipping the chips halfway through. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning, as they can go from perfectly crispy to burnt quickly.

If you’re open to frying, you could try that method too! Just heat oil in a pot or deep fryer and fry the potato slices until golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper towels and season immediately.

Whatever you choose, enjoy the crunching! Let us know how it turns out!
