Better a mini blender or a mini coffee grinder to grind spices?

Which is better for grinding spices: a mini blender or a mini coffee grinder?

Hi there!

I’m looking to purchase a small appliance for grinding spices. I don’t need something overly powerful; just something compact, user-friendly, easy to clean (preferably dishwasher-safe), and reasonably quick.

I spotted some interesting options on AliExpress—around $20 each—like mini blenders (with blades) and mini coffee grinders (with burrs).

Has anyone tried either of these?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hello!

When it comes to grinding spices, both a mini blender and a mini coffee grinder can do the job, but they have different advantages.

    Mini Blender:
Pros: Generally more versatile since you can use it for other tasks like smoothies, sauces, etc. They usually have larger capacities.
Cons: The blades in blenders are designed more for liquids, so they may not grind spices as finely as you’d like.

    Mini Coffee Grinder:
Pros: Specifically designed for grinding dry ingredients like spices, so you’ll get a finer, more consistent grind. They usually have better power for this purpose, especially burr grinders.
Cons: Less versatile than a blender.

Based on your needs for compactness and ease of cleaning, a mini coffee grinder might be the better option for grinding spices. Just check if the one you’re considering can be easily disassembled for cleaning and is dishwasher safe.

As for those options on AliExpress, it might be a good idea to read reviews and see what users are saying about their performance and durability.

Hope this helps, and happy grinding!
