Change in Chosen Foods Avocado oil? Or is my mayo recipe bad?

Has Anyone Noticed a Change in Chosen Foods Avocado Oil? Or Is It My Mayo Recipe?

Has anyone else observed a difference in Chosen Foods avocado oil recently?

Some time ago, I shared my experience with homemade mayonnaise turning into an oily mess after switching to a store-brand avocado oil that wasn’t pure. I went back to using Chosen Foods, and everything was fine for a few months. However, the last two bottles of Chosen Foods avocado oil have resulted in a butter-like consistency in my mayo, which is quite unappetizing. Did they possibly get acquired? I couldn’t find any information online.

Here’s my mayo recipe if anyone has suggestions to improve it:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp mustard
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup avocado oil

Edit: I’ve been using this recipe for four years! 😭

One response to “Change in Chosen Foods Avocado oil? Or is my mayo recipe bad?”

  1. It sounds really frustrating to deal with changes in the avocado oil when you have a reliable recipe! While I can’t confirm any specific changes at Chosen Foods, companies sometimes tweak their processes or formulations without public announcements, which might explain the inconsistencies you’re experiencing.

Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot your mayo recipe:

    1. Check the Oil Temperature: Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature before mixing. Cold oil can lead to emulsification issues.

    2. Experiment with Different Oils: If you’re noticing a significant texture change, consider trying a different brand of avocado oil or even other oils like extra virgin olive oil. Some people have success with a mix of oils as well.

    3. Adjust the Recipe: Sometimes a tiny tweak can help. You might try slightly reducing the amount of oil or adding a bit more mustard for stability.

    4. Blend Time: Make sure you’re blending long enough to achieve proper emulsification but not so much that it overheats and separates.

    5. Contact the Company: If you suspect that there has been a change, reaching out to Chosen Foods directly might provide clarification or better options.

If you continue to have issues, consider looking for other mayo recipes to compare or see if others in the community have had similar experiences and might recommend alternative brands that are stable. Good luck!
