Cheap goat stew idea – does this look good? Other ideas?

Looking for a budget-friendly goat stew recipe—what do you think? I’m a bit tight on cash, but I have 4 lbs of cubed goat meat, and I’m hoping to create a dish using mostly what I already have on hand or ingredients that won’t break the bank.

Does this recipe sound tasty? If anyone has any suggestions for this dish or alternative ideas, I’d love to hear them!

Goat Stew Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs cubed goat meat
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • A few chipotles in adobo sauce (chopped, plus 1-2 tablespoons of the sauce)
  • 2-3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 large carrots, chopped

Spices:
– 1-2 teaspoons cumin
– 1 teaspoon coriander
– 1/2 teaspoon ginger
– A pinch of cinnamon
– 4-6 cloves garlic, minced
– Oil for browning
– Salt and pepper
– Beef broth as needed

Instructions:

  1. Brown the goat meat in a pot and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, cook the chopped onions until they soften.
  3. Add the minced garlic and spices, cooking for an additional minute.
  4. Stir in the diced tomatoes, chopped chipotles, adobo sauce, and peanut butter.
  5. Pour in the coconut milk and mix well.
  6. Return the browned goat meat to the pot.
  7. Add enough beef broth to cover the meat.
  8. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer, cover, and cook for 2 hours or until the meat is tender.
  9. Add the chopped carrots about 30 minutes before it’s done.
  10. Simmer uncovered for a bit if you’d like to thicken the stew.

Any feedback or additional ideas would be greatly appreciated!

One response to “Cheap goat stew idea – does this look good? Other ideas?”

  1. Your goat stew recipe looks fantastic! The combination of coconut milk, chipotles in adobo, and peanut butter sounds rich and flavorful, and it’s great that you’re using ingredients you already have on hand. The spices you chose, particularly the cumin and coriander, will complement the goat meat really well.

Here are a few suggestions to enhance your stew or keep it budget-friendly:

    1. Veggies: If you have other vegetables on hand, consider adding potatoes or bell peppers for extra flavor and bulk. Frozen veggies can also be a cheap and easy addition.

    2. Beans: Adding a can of beans (like kidney or black beans) can make the stew even heartier and provide extra protein and fiber.

    3. Fresh Herbs: If you have any fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley, they can add a nice fresh touch at the end.

    4. Serving Ideas: To stretch it further, you could serve the stew over rice or with some crusty bread. Both options can help fill you up and make the meal last longer.

    5. Freezing: If you have leftovers, consider freezing them in portion sizes for future meals. Stews often taste even better the next day!

Overall, your recipe sounds like a winner, and it’s lovely that you’re being creative while working with a budget. Enjoy your cooking!
