Chicken legs

Chicken Legs Situation
I picked up two packs of raw, seasoned chicken legs that were labeled with a sell-by date of March 7th. After bringing them home, I stored them in the fridge but completely forgot about them until March 12th. At that point, I put them in the freezer without opening the packages.

Would you still consider eating them?

  1. It’s generally recommended to use raw chicken within 1 to 2 days if it’s stored in the fridge. Since your chicken legs were in the fridge for about 5 days past the sell-by date, it’s best to err on the side of caution. The sell-by date is an indicator of freshness for optimal quality, and while freezing them can help preserve them, the quality and safety might be compromised since they were in the fridge longer than recommended.

If they were properly sealed and looked/smelled fine, they might still be okay after freezing, but you should always prioritize food safety. When in doubt, it’s safer to discard them. If you decide to eat them, make sure to cook them thoroughly and check for any off smells or unusual textures after thawing.
