I’m making Shepherd’s Pie for a ski club this weekend and I’m considering adding celery to the lamb filling. My usual ingredients include onion, carrot, canned green beans, garlic, tomato paste, rosemary, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce. Since the onion and carrot combination is so close to mirepoix, which works wonderfully in stews and soups, I thought celery might be a nice enhancement. What do you think? Should I give it a try?

Adding celery to your Shepherd’s Pie filling could be a great idea! It would definitely enhance the flavor and contribute some nice texture, much like in a mirepoix. Celery can add a subtle sweetness and depth to the dish, complementing the other ingredients you already use. Just make sure to dice it finely so it blends well with the onions and carrots.
If you decide to add it, you might want to slightly adjust the quantities of the other vegetables to keep the balance right. Overall, it sounds like a delicious way to elevate your Shepherd’s Pie, perfect for warming up after a day on the slopes. Enjoy cooking for the ski club!
