Cooking Times in Recipes

Is it just me, or does it seem like most recipes underestimate cooking times? I always bring ingredients to room temperature beforehand and have reliable temperature sensors to double-check my oven.

Am I alone in this experience?

  1. You’re definitely not alone! Cooking times in recipes can be quite variable for a number of reasons. Factors like the size and shape of the food, the specifics of your oven (even slight variations in calibration can make a difference), and even the type of cookware you’re using can all influence cooking times.

Additionally, recipes may provide estimated times based on a particular set of assumptions — for example, the ingredients being at certain temperatures or the desired level of doneness. It’s always a good idea to use those times as a guideline rather than a strict rule.

Investing in cooking thermometers can help achieve the best results, as internal temperatures are often a more accurate way to determine doneness. Have you found anything that works better for you in terms of estimating cook times?
