Crab Legs Cooking Tips?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some simple ways to cook crab legs. I absolutely love them, and my wife had them for the first time at Red Lobster recently and fell in love too. It’s the only seafood she’ll eat! I noticed they were on sale at my local grocery store this week, so I picked up a couple of packs for dinner tonight. I’ve never cooked crab legs before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. Cooking crab legs is pretty straightforward and can be delicious! Here are a few easy methods you can try:

    1. Boiling:

    1. Fill a large pot with water (about 3-4 quarts) and add a few tablespoons of salt. You can also add some Old Bay seasoning for extra flavor.
    2. Bring the water to a boil.
    3. Once boiling, add the crab legs. If they’re frozen, you can thaw them beforehand, but it’s not necessary.
    4. Boil for about 5-7 minutes (for thawed) or 10-15 minutes (for frozen) until heated through.
    5. Drain and serve with melted butter for dipping.

    2. Steaming:

    1. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and place a steamer basket inside.
    2. Bring the water to a boil.
    3. Place the crab legs in the steamer basket, cover the pot, and steam for about 5-7 minutes (for thawed) or 10-15 minutes (for frozen).
    4. Serve with melted butter.

    3. Baking:

    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Place crab legs on a baking sheet. You can brush them with a bit of olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle with seasoning.
    3. Cover them with aluminum foil to retain moisture.
    4. Bake for about 15-20 minutes.
    5. Serve with melted butter.

    4. Microwaving:

    1. Place crab legs in a microwave-safe dish.
    2. Add a little water to the bottom of the dish and cover it with plastic wrap (leave a little corner open for steam to escape).
    3. Microwave on high for about 4-5 minutes (adjust time depending on the number of legs).
    4. Let it sit for a minute before carefully removing the plastic wrap. Serve with melted butter.

    Tips:

    • Always check for freshness before purchasing.
    • You can melt some garlic butter and add lemon juice for an extra flavor boost.
    • Don’t forget to have crab crackers or kitchen scissors handy to help with breaking open the shells.

Enjoy your crab legs dinner with your wife! 🍽️🦀
