First time cooking with my new heritage steel pan.

I just tried cooking with my new heritage steel pan for the first time! After sharing my initial experience, I picked up some useful tips. Unfortunately, I overheated some olive oil while cooking pears, and now my pan looks like this after several cleaning attempts. I started by boiling equal parts vinegar and water and scrubbing with a soft sponge. Then I switched to Bar Keeper’s Friend and really gave it a good scrub. Is this how it’s going to look from now on? Check it out: https://imgur.com/a/rriru2S

  1. It sounds like you’re having quite the adventure with your new heritage steel pan! When it comes to cleaning stainless steel, using high heat with oil can definitely lead to discoloration. While it might seem like the stains are permanent, there are a few things you can try to restore the pan:

    1. Baking Soda Paste: Make a paste with baking soda and water, apply it to the stains, and let it sit for a bit before scrubbing gently with a soft sponge.

    2. Bar Keeper’s Friend: Since you’ve already used it, just make sure to really scrub with it using a non-abrasive sponge. It can be quite effective.

    3. White Vinegar: You can try pouring some white vinegar directly into the pan and letting it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. Vinegar can help lift some of the discoloration.

    4. High Heat Technique: For future cooking, try to heat the pan gradually and avoid overheating oil.

Stainless steel can hold onto stains, but with some effort, you can usually get it looking much better! Don’t get discouraged; the pan will develop a nice patina with use. Good luck!
