First time making Focaccia

Making Focaccia for the first time! Quick question: I’d like to add roasted garlic cloves to it. If I put whole garlic cloves on top, will they roast while the bread bakes, or should I roast them beforehand and then add them to the dough? Thanks!

  1. Your question makes perfect sense! If you place whole garlic cloves on top of the focaccia before baking, they will not roast to the same extent as they would if you roasted them first. Whole cloves will soften, but they may not develop that rich, caramelized flavor you get from roasting.

For the best results, I recommend roasting the garlic beforehand. You can do this by drizzling the cloves with olive oil and wrapping them in foil, then roasting them in the oven until they’re soft and sweet. Once they’re done, you can either press them out of the skins and spread them onto the focaccia dough or scatter the whole roasted cloves on top. This way, you’ll achieve that delicious roasted garlic flavor in your bread. Enjoy your focaccia-making adventure!
