Food for my husband

Meal Ideas for My Husband

I’m excited to share that my husband has landed his dream job! However, this new role requires him to be on the road six days a week for the next three months, followed by three months off. While he has a microwave in his work truck, he doesn’t have a way to keep refrigerated foods. He’s looking to avoid junk food and dining out every night. Currently, he takes ramen and some canned soups with him, but I would love to hear any suggestions for other portable and healthy meal options he could take along. Thank you in advance for your help!

  1. That’s great to hear about your husband’s dream job! Here are some ideas for easy, nutritious foods he can take with him that don’t require refrigeration:

    1. Wraps and Sandwiches: Use whole grain wraps or bread with non-perishable fillings like nut butter, hummus, or canned tuna/salmon packets. He can prep these ahead of time and they travel well.

    2. Salads in a Jar: Layer ingredients like canned beans, pre-cooked quinoa, corn, diced bell peppers, and a dressing at the bottom. He can shake it up when ready to eat.

    3. Vegetable Chips and Dips: Look for baked veggie chips or seaweed snacks that can pair with hummus or guacamole packs.

    4. Dried Fruits and Nuts: These make for great snacks and can provide energy on the go. Mix them together for a homemade trail mix.

    5. Instant Oatmeal Packs: He can make quick, healthy breakfasts or snacks just by adding hot water. You can also add nuts or dried fruit for extra nutrition.

    6. Hard Boiled Eggs: They can last in a cooler for a couple of days, or you can make egg salad with mustard and spices to keep it fresh in a sealed container.

    7. Rice and Quinoa Cups: Microwaveable single-serving packs are a great base for meals. He can add canned beans, spices, or pre-cooked chicken.

    8. Jerky: Look for lower sodium options or turkey jerky as a protein-rich snack that doesn’t require refrigeration.

    9. Pre-packaged Tuna or Chicken Salad Kits: These often come with crackers, making for a quick meal.

    10. Homemade Energy Bars: You can make or buy bars that are high in protein and low in sugar for snacks.

You could also prep some meals in advance and freeze them to keep them fresh while he’s on the road. He can rotate in different items each week to keep things interesting. Wishing him a successful journey in his new job!
