Forgot I had Frozen BBQ Eel, is it still good?

Subject: Is My Frozen BBQ Eel Still Good?

Hi everyone!

I just came across some vacuum-sealed BBQ eel in my freezer that I planned to use for dinner tonight. It was packaged in September 2021, with a best before date of September 2023. Now it’s March 2025. Is it still safe to eat, or should I toss it? Thanks for your help!

  1. It’s generally recommended to consume vacuum-sealed frozen food within the “best before” date for the best quality and flavor. However, if the BBQ eel has been properly stored in the freezer at a consistent temperature of 0°F (-18°C) or lower, it may still be safe to eat past that date.

Before cooking it, check for any signs of freezer burn, off smells, or unusual textures, as these can be indicators that the food has degraded in quality. If it looks and smells fine, you can cook a small piece to test the flavor. Trust your instincts—if you have any doubts, it’s best to err on the side of caution and discard it. Enjoy your dinner!
