French starter/dessert recipes

French Starter/Dessert Recipes Needed!

Next Saturday, my in-laws are throwing a Six Nations viewing party (we’re in Wales, and it’s a televised rugby tournament!). Each couple has been assigned a country to prepare a starter and dessert, and we’ve drawn France. I was hoping for Italy since I have a treasure trove of Italian recipes!

I have a few ideas lined up, but I’d love to gather more suggestions. Some family members aren’t the most adventurous eaters, so unfortunately, snails are off the table (even though I adore them and have made them before—no chance they would try!).

I’d appreciate your help! The dishes should be able to be prepared in advance and transported about three miles by car, but I can finish or reheat them in their kitchen before serving. For context, I’ll already be making gougères and crème brûlées. Thank you in advance for your ideas!

    2. An upside-down caramelized apple tart that can be served warm or at room temperature. It’s a classic French dessert that’s sure to impress!

    3. Madeleines

    4. These small sponge cakes are light and perfect for a sweet touch. They can be made in advance and stored for a few days or frozen and then thawed for serving.

    5. Chocolate Mousse

    6. This rich and creamy dessert can be made in advance and stored in individual cups. Just be sure to leave enough time for it to chill properly before transporting.

    Tips for Transport:

    • Use sturdy containers with tight lids to avoid spills during transport.
    • Consider prepping elements of the dishes in advance, like making pastry dough or filling for the quiche, to make assembly and cooking simpler on the day of the event.

I hope you find these suggestions helpful and that you enjoy your time at the Six Nations viewing! Bon appétit!
