Help me find a peeler?

I’m on the hunt for a peeler!

I learned to peel using a stick peeler with a swivel blade and, most importantly, no guard. Unfortunately, my parents accidentally tossed it during a move, and ever since, I’ve been searching for a replacement. I’ve tried y-peelers (which I can’t seem to use without cutting my thumb) and other stick peelers that come with guards. However, every time I use a guarded stick peeler, the peel gets stuck, causing the blade to either stop swiveling or, worse, wrap around it and go off-course. I’ve ended up with quite a few cuts on my chopping boards!

Now that I’m moving out and setting up my own kitchen, I’m determined to find a stick peeler with a swivel blade and no guard. I know how to safely keep my fingers away from the blade since they wrap around the handle! If anyone has any recommendations, I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m based in the UK but am open to ordering from overseas. Thank you!

One response to “Help me find a peeler?”

  1. Finding a peeler that matches your specific needs can be tricky, but there are a few options you might consider. Here are some suggestions:

    1. Online Marketplaces: Websites like Amazon UK, eBay, or specialist kitchenware sites often have a variety of peelers. You might want to search for “swivel blade peeler no guard” to narrow down your options.

    2. Kitchen Supply Stores: Check out local kitchen supply stores or specialty cooking shops. They might carry different brands or models that aren’t available online.

    3. Brand Recommendations: Some brands are known for producing high-quality peelers. Look for brands like OXO, Victorinox, or Kuhn Rikon; they might have models without guards.

    4. Cooking Forums: Consider posting on cooking forums or subreddits like /r/Cooking or /r/AskCulinary. Members there might have specific recommendations based on their experiences.

    5. Custom Made: If you’re unable to find what you’re looking for, consider reaching out to a local metalworker or craftsman who could potentially create a custom peeler for you.

Keep experimenting, and hopefully, you’ll find a peeler that works perfectly for you! Good luck with your new kitchen!
