Help Me Identify a Vegetable

Need Help Identifying a Vegetable

I’m trying to remember a vegetable I used to enjoy in my Korean household when I was a kid. My mom would keep them in a brown paper bag, and we would roast them, then peel and eat them. They were peeled like pistachios but possibly resembled edamame? The texture was somewhat sticky, similar to mochi, and the beans were greenish-yellow in color.

I asked my mom about it, but she couldn’t recall what it was. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. It sounds like you might be describing fresh chestnuts, specifically the kind used in Korean cuisine! When roasted, they have a sticky texture and are often compared to the texture of mochi. They can be greenish or yellowish when peeled, but the outer shell is similar to that of a pistachio.

Another possibility could be mung beans or even sweet potatoes, as they can sometimes be roasted and have a sticky texture, though they wouldn’t look exactly like edamame.

If you have any more specifics about the taste or how your family used to prepare them, that could help narrow it down!
