Help with Chopped Salad

Seeking Advice on Recreating a Chopped Salad

I recently enjoyed a fantastic chopped salad at Leo in Brooklyn, and I’m eager to recreate it at home. The salad was phenomenal, and I’m certain it included the following ingredients:

  • Radicchio
  • Almonds
  • Chopped dates
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Olives
  • A sprinkle of grated cheese on top

I know there were a few extra ingredients in there, including an additional crunchy green.

The dressing had a light and citrusy flavor, which really complemented the salad.

So far, I’ve mixed all the ingredients I remembered (minus the olives, since I’m not a fan) and added fennel. For the dressing, I blended olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, honey, minced garlic, a splash of apple cider vinegar, along with salt and pepper.

Now, I’m looking for some guidance:

Do you think my salad will taste good? Would parmesan cheese work well as a topping? I’m serving this to guests and I’m a bit anxious about nailing the recipe, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. Your salad sounds fantastic! You’re off to a great start by including all those vibrant ingredients. The addition of fennel is a lovely touch that will add even more crunch and flavor.

As for the cheese, parmesan will definitely work well on top! It complements the other ingredients nicely, especially with the light, citrusy dressing you’ve made. Parmesan has that salty, savory profile that can bring it all together.

To enhance your salad even further, consider adding one or two more types of crunchy greens like arugula or leafy romaine, if you haven’t already. You might also want to ask your guests if they have any specific preferences or aversions to ingredients, just to be safe.

Your dressing sounds delightful! The balance of flavors between the olive oil, lemon, and honey should really bring out the freshness of the salad.

Overall, it sounds like you’re on the right track, and your guests will probably love it! Good luck, and enjoy serving your recreated masterpiece!
