House is getting redone and I have no kitchen, what do I need to cook?

My house is undergoing renovations, and I currently have no kitchen—just a sink and some extension cords. I’m eager to cook meals like steak and burgers during this time, but I’m not sure what equipment I should invest in to make it work.

Right now, I have an air fryer and a rice cooker, but I’d love some recommendations for other essential cooking tools. Since I’m in the UK, I’m aware that some gear from the USA might not be readily available due to health and safety regulations.

I find the air fryer great, but I really want to be able to use a pan for cooking too. Any suggestions?

  1. It sounds like a bit of a challenge, but you can definitely get creative with the equipment you can use! Since you already have an air fryer and a rice cooker, here are some additional options that would enable you to cook a variety of foods without needing a full kitchen:

    1. Electric Skillet or Griddle: These are great for cooking burgers, steaks, and even pancakes. They typically have a non-stick surface and can be used to prepare a wide variety of meals.

    2. Induction Cooktop: If you have pots and pans that are suitable for induction cooking, an induction cooktop can serve as a portable stovetop. It’s great for boiling, sautéing, and frying.

    3. Electric Hot Plate: This is another good option if you want to use your existing cookware. It’s versatile and can be used for a range of cooking techniques.

    4. Slow Cooker or Instant Pot: If you’re looking for something hands-off, a slow cooker or Instant Pot can be a big help. You can make soups, stews, and even rice dishes with these.

    5. Toaster Oven: This is a great alternative to an oven and can be used to bake, broil, or toast food. You can prepare lots of different dishes in a toaster oven.

    6. Coffee Maker (for boiling water): In a pinch, if you need to boil water for something like instant noodles or cooking rice, some coffee makers can be repurposed for this.

    7. Microwave: If you don’t already have one, a microwave can warm up and cook a variety of foods quickly.

    8. Electric Grill: There are compact electric grill options out there that can be perfect for grilling burgers or vegetables.

Make sure to check the wattage requirements and your electrical setup to ensure you can operate these safely with your extension cords. With a few of these tools, you should be able to whip up some delicious meals even without a traditional kitchen!
