What is the Shelf Life of Sauces in the Fridge?
Today, I want to talk about storing sauces in the fridge. As someone who lives alone and tries to be frugal, I often find myself struggling to finish bottled sauces before they expire.
Recently, I was meal prepping breakfast burritos and needed some chili jam. I found a jar in my fridge, but the label stated that it should be consumed within 4 weeks of opening. Not knowing how long it had been sitting there, I decided to buy a fresh jar and discard the partially used one.
While I am good at saving leftovers and freezing ingredients, I always struggle with finishing sauces on time. For example, I may buy a jar of burger sauce or house relish for a specific meal, but then find myself unable to use it up before it expires. This leads to unnecessary waste and impacts both my budget and the environment.
Do any of you face the same dilemma as a single person living alone? How closely do you follow the recommended expiration dates on sauce bottles? Let’s discuss!
Thank you for your insights!
