‘I can’t even boil an egg’

“I can’t even boil an egg!”

This is a playful observation. When people want to poke fun at their cooking abilities, it’s a common phrase that surfaces: “I can’t even boil an egg!”

Am I the only one who thinks boiling an egg is actually a surprisingly tricky skill? I consider myself a pretty decent home cook, yet every time I attempt to boil an egg, I find myself searching for the perfect timing, and even then, I can’t shake the uncertainty!

Kudos to those who master boiled eggs with ease! But honestly, making the ability to boil an egg the standard for kitchen competence seems a bit steep!

  1. You’re definitely not alone in feeling that way! Boiling an egg might seem simple, but it can be surprisingly tricky to get it just right. Between the size of the egg, starting temperature, and altitude, it can definitely vary! Plus, the difference between soft and hard-boiled can be just a matter of seconds—no pressure, right?

It’s totally okay to need a little help with the timing. Cooking can be intimidating, and we all have our strengths and weaknesses in the kitchen. Maybe instead of holding boiled eggs as the gold standard, we could celebrate all the other unique dishes we can tackle! After all, it’s all about enjoying the process and learning along the way. 💪🍳
