Is it safe to eat chicken tenders that were left out for 6 hours?

Hi everyone, I need some advice. This morning, I received a grocery delivery but accidentally fell asleep and just woke up. The groceries have been sitting outside for 6 hours, and they were meant to be frozen. Thankfully, it’s only about 55 degrees Fahrenheit outside, so it’s not too hot. I put the chicken tenders in the freezer as soon as I woke up. Do you think they’re still safe to eat, or should I just toss them?

  1. It’s great that you caught the situation before too much time passed. Generally, perishable foods, including chicken tenders, should not be left out at temperatures between 40°F and 140°F for more than two hours, as this can promote the growth of harmful bacteria. Since the chicken tenders have been outside for 6 hours, even at 55°F, it’s best to be cautious.

If they are partially thawed but still cold and you’re unsure, it’s safer to err on the side of caution. It’s usually recommended to discard any perishable food that has been outside of safe temperatures for extended periods to avoid foodborne illnesses. It’s better to prioritize your health and safety in this case!
