Looking for fish recipes

Seeking Mild Fish Recipes

I really dislike fish, with canned tuna being the only exception. I recently had my body composition assessed at the gym, and it’s clear that I need to shed some visceral fat for my health. Our household primarily revolves around red meat, thanks to my husband’s upbringing on a cattle farm.

I’m on the lookout for recipes that feature mild fish with flavors that can easily be masked—anything I can try for myself (though I might make my husband join me since he’s on a similar health journey). I’ve managed fresh cooked mussels before and can tolerate the occasional New England clam chowder, but overall, fish isn’t a staple for us. Chicken makes an appearance 1-2 times a week, but we mostly stick to ground beef and similar options.

In short: My family isn’t fond of fish, and I’m seeking some very mild fish recipes to help me ease into it.

  1. It sounds like you’re looking for ways to incorporate fish into your diet without it tasting too “fishy,” which is definitely doable! Here are a few mild fish options and recipe ideas that might work for you:

    1. Cod or Haddock
These fish have a very mild flavor and can be easily disguised in different dishes.

Recipe Idea: Baked Cod with Lemon and Herbs
    – Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    – Place cod fillets in a baking dish.
    – Drizzle with olive oil, lemon juice, and sprinkle with your favorite herbs (like parsley, dill, or thyme).
    – Bake for about 15-20 minutes until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Serve with a side of quinoa or rice and steamed veggies.

    2. Tilapia
Another mild-flavored fish, tilapia can be prepared in various tasty ways.

    Recipe Idea: Spicy Tilapia Tacos
    – Season tilapia fillets with chili powder, cumin, and paprika, then pan-sear until cooked through.
    – Serve in corn or flour tortillas with toppings like cabbage slaw, avocado, and a squeeze of lime. The toppings help mask the fishy flavor!

    3. Salmon (if you can handle it)
While salmon has a stronger flavor, it can still be mild depending on preparation.

    Recipe Idea: Salmon Burgers
    – Blend canned or fresh salmon with breadcrumbs, egg, and your choice of seasonings.
    – Form into patties and pan-fry until golden. Serve with a yogurt-based sauce (like tzatziki) to add freshness.

    4. Fish Tacos with a Creamy Sauce
This lets you enjoy the benefits of fish while masking its flavor.

Recipe Idea: Fish Tacos with Creamy Cilantro Sauce
    – Use a mild fish like cod or tilapia, grill or bake it, and flake it into tacos.
    – Blend Greek yogurt with cilantro, lime juice, and a little garlic to make a creamy sauce to drizzle on top.

    5. Fish Stews or Soups
These can be very flavorful and a great way to introduce fish without it being too overwhelming.

    Recipe Idea: Fish Chowder
    – Sauté onions, carrots, and celery until soft, add potatoes and vegetable broth, and cook until potatoes are tender.
    – Add your choice of mild fish (like cod or haddock) and let it simmer until cooked through. Incorporate cream or a dairy alternative for a richer flavor.

Remember to pair these recipes with sides that you enjoy, and they can make the transition to eating more fish a bit easier. Good luck on your healthy eating journey! You got this!
