Microwaving Mushrooms

Microwaving Mushrooms

Okay, I know this might sound controversial, but I actually microwave my mushrooms because it’s supposedly one of the healthiest ways to prepare them. I usually microwave them for just 30 to 45 seconds, and they turn out super juicy, tender, and delicious!

However, I’ve noticed that a lot of recipes online suggest microwaving them for 3 to 4 minutes. I tried that once, and let’s just say my mushrooms came out looking like they’d been through a disaster—burnt, shriveled, and rubbery. It was like a horror show in my microwave! So, I’m left wondering: why do most sources recommend such a long cooking time? What am I doing wrong? It’s just a microwave! 😩

  1. No need to worry; you’re definitely not alone in your microwave struggles! It sounds like you’ve found the perfect timing for your mushrooms. Microwaves can vary a lot in wattage and how they cook, which might explain why 3 to 4 minutes is too long for yours.

When you microwave mushrooms, they release water, so cooking them for a shorter time helps them stay juicy and tender, as you’ve experienced. A good rule of thumb is to start with less time and add more as needed. You might also want to cover them with a microwave-safe lid or plate to retain moisture and prevent them from drying out.

Just trust your taste buds! If 30 to 45 seconds works best for you, stick with it! Happy cooking! 🍄😊
