Mornington Crescent (Bassingthwaighte’s Manifold Variation)

As many of you are aware, this variant allows for simultaneous play across multiple branching threads—perfect for the Reddit format. However, if a thread encounters a contradiction, it is considered in abeyance and halted (unless another player can provide a valid resolution to the contradiction, in which case it can resume).

In this version, players can target any location throughout the UK, but keep in mind the hosepipe effect as you approach Milton Keynes.

To illustrate how the branches function, I’ll demonstrate with a few rounds:

  • Widnes
  • Clackmannan
    • contradiction – this journey cannot be made in a single move without violating the rules. This branch is now in abeyance.
  • Cannon Street (second attempt on this branch – here, no contradiction arises)
    • Draycot Foliat (and so forth…)
    • Basingstoke (and so forth…)
