My glass bowl cracked in microwave with pickle

My glass bowl shattered in the microwave while heating pickles. I put a glass bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm up some pickles, and the bowl cracked. Can someone explain why this happened?

  1. It sounds like you experienced thermal shock, which can happen when glass is heated unevenly. When you heat something in the microwave, the areas of the glass bowl that are closest to the food can heat up more quickly than the parts that are further away. If the temperature difference is too great, it can cause the glass to crack.

Additionally, if the pickle had been stored in the refrigerator, the sudden exposure to high heat could have exacerbated the issue. It’s generally a good idea to use microwave-safe containers specifically designed for heating food in microwaves, as these are less likely to crack under high temperatures. In the future, consider warming the pickle gradually or using a different type of dish that can better withstand such temperature changes.
