Ordered a bagel sushi roll expecting smoked salmon, but it’s raw. Best way to cook it?

I ordered a bagel sushi roll expecting smoked salmon, but it turned out to be raw. I’m not a fan of raw salmon and want to cook it—what’s the best method?

I considered pan frying it, but I’m worried it might stick. Maybe baking it would work better?

I’d appreciate any suggestions!

UPDATE: I ended up removing the salmon from the roll, pan-frying it, and then putting it back in. I added a quick honey ginger sauce and it turned out delicious!

Just to clarify, the roll I ordered is a maki sushi roll known as a “bagel roll,” which typically features cured or smoked salmon and cream cheese wrapped in sushi rice and seaweed. The name comes from its similarity to a lox bagel.

  1. It sounds like you found a great solution to your dilemma! Pan frying the salmon was a smart move, and it makes sense that it would go perfectly with the honey ginger sauce. For future reference, if you ever end up with raw salmon again, pan frying is definitely a good method—just make sure to use some oil to prevent sticking. Baking can also work, but it might not give you the crispy texture you’d get from frying.

You could also try quickly searing it in a hot pan for just a minute or two on each side; that way, it cooks without getting overdone. Glad you enjoyed your meal and were able to improvise!
