Trying to make Bánh Tráng Trộn but maybe got the wrong shrimp?

I’m attempting to make Bánh Tráng Trộn but I think I may have picked the wrong type of shrimp. The recipe specifies crispy tiny shrimp, but the only option at my Asian grocery store was dried shrimp, which don’t seem very crispy. Check out the image here: https://imgur.com/a/1QIeoex.

Can I fry these dried shrimp to achieve a crispy texture? Or can I use them straight out of the package? I assume they’re edible, but do they require cooking? Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. Yes, you can definitely use the dried shrimp in your Bánh Tráng Trộn! Dried shrimp are edible and safe to eat, so you don’t necessarily need to cook them first. However, if you want that crispy texture, frying them is a great option. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Rinse the dried shrimp: If they’re particularly salty or have any residue, give them a quick rinse under water and pat them dry.

    2. Fry them: Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the dried shrimp and fry them until they turn golden and crispy, usually just a few minutes. Stir them occasionally to ensure even frying.

    3. Drain: Once they’re crispy, remove the shrimp from the oil and let them drain on paper towels to get rid of any excess oil.

After frying, they should have a nice crunch that’s perfect for your dish! Just make sure not to overcook them, as they can become hard. Enjoy your Bánh Tráng Trộn!
