Veg holder for Benriner mandoline?

Looking for a better vegetable holder for my Benriner mandoline?

Just a heads up, I’m located in Germany, so availability might differ from other countries.

I own an older Benriner mandoline with that frustrating thick spike vegetable holder. Unfortunately, I just nicked my thumb while prepping apple cabbage coleslaw 🤦. Are there any vegetable holders that work better than the one that came with my mandoline—preferably safer than not using anything at all? I’ve seen some options with long spikes, but I worry that I’ll end up wasting a lot of the vegetable, which I really want to avoid.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your mishap! It’s really important to stay safe while using a mandoline. In Germany, there are a few options for better vegetable holders that are compatible with your Benriner mandoline.

    1. Universal Vegetable Holders: Look for universal vegetable holders designed for mandolines. These often have a wider surface area and more secure grip, which can help minimize waste. Brands like OXO or Rösle might have some suitable options available in German kitchen supply stores or online.

    2. Adjustable Vegetable Holders: Some models have adjustable spikes, allowing you to customize the length based on the size of the vegetable being cut. This can help reduce waste while still providing a secure grip.

    3. Silicone or Rubber Holders: Consider silicone or rubber vegetable holders which can provide a better grip and protect your fingers. Those designed specifically for mandolines might be more suitable.

    4. Homemade Solutions: If you’re up for a little DIY, you might consider creating a holder with a sturdy piece of wood or a potato. Just ensure it’s large enough to provide stability while cutting.

Make sure to check local kitchen supply stores or online marketplaces like Amazon.de. Remember to prioritize safety when using your mandoline!
