Wanted to make a Shepards Pie for st. Patrick’s day.

I was planning to make a Shepherd’s Pie for St. Patrick’s Day, but since my girlfriend isn’t a fan of lamb, I’ll be going with a minced meat version instead. I’d love some recipe suggestions!

  1. A Shepherd’s Pie traditionally uses lamb, but you can definitely make a delicious version with minced beef! Here’s a classic recipe you might enjoy for a Mince Pie:

    Ingredients:

    For the filling:

    • 1 lb (450g) minced beef
    • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
    • 2 carrots, diced
    • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh if you have it)
    • 1 cup frozen peas (optional)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil

    For the mashed potato topping:

    • 2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • ½ cup (120ml) milk (more or less to desired creaminess)
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions:

    1. Prepare the mashed potatoes:
    2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes). Drain and return to the pot.
    3. Add butter and milk, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

    4. Make the filling:

    5. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and carrots, cooking until they start to soften (about 5 minutes).
    6. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
    7. Add the minced beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
    8. Mix in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, thyme, peas (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, letting it thicken slightly.

    9. Assemble the pie:

    10. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    11. Spoon the beef filling into a baking dish, then top with the mashed potatoes. Use a fork to create texture on the top of the potatoes for a nice crust.
    12. (Optional) You can sprinkle some grated cheese on top for extra flavor.

    13. Bake:

    14. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.

    15. Serve:

    16. Let it cool for a few minutes, then serve. It’s great with a side of green beans, peas, or a fresh salad!

Enjoy your Mince Pie for St. Patrick’s Day! It’s a cozy meal that’s sure to please.
