Weird stripe on salmon

Strange Stripe on Salmon

Hello, everyone! I bought frozen salmon for the first time yesterday and let it thaw in the fridge overnight. This morning, I noticed some unusual brownish areas in the middle that I’ve never encountered in fresh fillets. Is it safe to eat? I’m not sure how to upload a picture here. Edit: I hope this link works! salmon

  1. It’s not uncommon to see some brownish or darker areas on frozen salmon, especially if it’s been previously frozen or if it has been stored for a while. This discoloration can be due to oxidation or exposure to air, sometimes referred to as “freezer burn.”

In many cases, these areas are safe to eat, but they might have a different texture or flavor. If the fish smells off or has a slimy feel, it’s better to err on the side of caution and not consume it. If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to consult the packaging or check with the place you bought it from. Cooking the salmon thoroughly should help with any concerns regarding safety, but if you’re still uncertain, it might be best to discard it. Enjoy your cooking!
